The total length is approximately 35 cm. As resident or wandering birds, they inhabit the subalpine or alpine zones from Hokkaido to Kyushu. They particularly enjoy eating stone pine cones, and from mid-August to autumn, one can frequently observe them carrying stone pine cones. They also hide stone pine seeds in various locations, practicing caching for later consumption.
